This New Yellow Flannel from SOSO is Absolutely Perfect for the Great Outdoors
It’s been a big year for SOSO and flannels. They’ve had made-to-measure flannels in their line-up for a while, but this year was clearly a step into new territory for them. With their flannels now tipping the scales at a beefy 13.5 oz., they’ve stepped into the ring with the super-heavyweights.
Their first few colour choices were dependable and conservative. I got to skip the line and try one of the first to roll off the line (a Red Ombre), and it’s become an essential part of my wardrobe. It hangs on a hook by my bed, and it’s the first thing I reach for on chilly mornings.

When asked what colour I wanted, it was a toss-up between the smashing red and the just-as-good Blue Ombre. Since then, SOSO have added more colours: a Green Ombre and a door-crashing Purple Ombre that we’ve been seeing absolutely everywhere since its release.

Now, they’ve got a new signature heavyweight flannel in an even more ambitious colourway. They sent me the new Yellow Flannel so I could take it for a test drive in the Norwegian mountains, and it arrived at just the right time. With the last warm days of summer fading into memory, flannel days had just arrived.

On the drive up to the mountains, the flannels unmistakably loud colours seemed a little out of place in the city. As the mountains began to loom in the windshield, though, the bright colours seemed to be finding their element. Hunters and outdoorsmen have long gravitated to colours like these to help them ensure they don’t get mistaken for wildlife in the bush.
I put the flannel through its paces, hiking in it and throwing it over my shoulders when moving between buildings in our mountain place. The weather turned sour on the last few days, and the flannel got passed around, with my wife and her folks using it as a makeshift jacket.

It was so at home in the mountains that it seemed a crime to take it back to the city. Just as my red flannel hangs on a hook by my bed at home, this new SOSO heavyweight flannel hangs on a hook by the door in the mountains.
It’s become communal property, shared by the hunters who use the cabin each fall and the other members of the family. Big thanks to SOSO for sending me the flannel to try.
