Stevenson Overall Co. is a heritage-inspired denim and workwear brand blending old American workwear roots with meticulous modern craftsmanship. The brand is especially interesting for the denim enthusiasts and vintage workwear fans.
Originally, Stevenson Overall Co. began in the 1920s in Portland, Indiana as a maker of rugged workwear for laborers and farmers.
Then the brand faded during the Great Depression, but in 2005 it was revived when vintage denim enthusiasts Zip Stevenson and Atsusuke Tagaya encountered original Stevenson garments and decided to resurrect the label.
The philosophy of Stevenson is about preserving historical methods and details. Like flat-felled seams* and early 20th-century constructions while adapting fits and fabrics for today’s wearers.
*Flat-felled seams & single-needle stitching: This old-school construction technique, rare in modern denim production, was common in the 1920’s.
Despite its American roots, all modern SOC denim is crafted in Japan, where artisans specialize in heritage denim production. Their preferred selvedge denim comes from the Kuroki Mills. And the use of the Zimbabwe cotton provides the garments whith that unique slubby and textured quality, adding depth to fades and wear patterns.
